A VERY PERSONAL WINE LIST

When choosing the wines for our new list, we decided to put together a broad selection of personal favourites rather than a formulaic assortment of familiar names and run-of-the-mill drinking from well-known growers. It’s a very distinctive choice, including a big selection that can be explored by the glass as well as some very unusual pedigree vintages from around the world.

The list begins with more than a dozen house selections. Beyond that, we have divided the whites and reds into geographical groups, rather than simply listing the cheapest bottles first. We hope this will encourage you explore the by-ways of the list.

We can personally endorse everything on the list, but a few deserve to be singled out as special recommendations.

24. Sauvignon Blanc, 2004, Geisen (NZ) A real find; amazingly drinkable Sauvignon.

36. Les Pierres d’Argent, 2002, Château de Lascaux One of the sublime and rare Langedoc wines that we are very excited about.

46. Shiraz ‘The Freedom’, 2002, Langmeil Winery, Barossa Valley AUS. Extraordinary stuff! Very potent, as smooth as vintage port and unlike any other Shiraz we have tasted.

Also, don’t miss out on the gold-medal Chardonnay, 2002 from Yering Station, (23). Forget supermarket Chardonnays, this is something really special!

We hope you will enjoy and appreciate the list as much as we do.

To ensure as much variety and choice as possible, we have cherry-picked some of the best from the country’s top merchants. We are particularly grateful for their support, advice and encouragement.
